Easter Decorating 2017

I hope you all had a great weekend. Saturday was cold and windy so I stayed in and did some Easter decorating. I also packed away my winter clothes, I am officially done with winter so I am taking an “Out of sight, out of mind” approach and hoping the warmer weather will follow.

Quite a few years ago, I bought over sized eggs on clearance from Michael’s. They were super cheap and I had grand plans for them. I brought them home and put them in the attic for the following Easter. I must have been over caffeinated when  I bought them because the following Easter came and I didn’t know what to do with them. They sat in the box, in the attic, until this year.

I decided to make giant faux chocolate Easter eggs.

I spay painted them brown in a gloss finish.

I was a little nervous about the shade of brown and the gloss finish. I didn’t have a choice, it was the only brown spray paint on the shelf.

It ended up being the perfect choice. Once they were dry, I left them in the kitchen, on a tray. All the kids thought they were real chocolate!

I painted on some “candy” decorations and they were finished. Then I spent a week trying to figure out what the heck I was going to do with giant chocolate Easter eggs.

My only thought was to put them on the porch in a giant basket but then I decided to try them on the mantle first.

EASTER MANTLE:

I put a boxwood garland on the mantle and added the eggs. It was cute but it needed something more. I grabbed my two large Easter bunny planters and added them on either side of the mirror. I filled their baskets with Hydrangeas and the mantle was done- and I love it. Start to finish, the mantle took about fifteen minutes for me to pull together. That is a record for me. ( Okay, maybe it was five years and fifteen minutes but lets not split hairs.)

The mantle went so quick that I had time to do a little Easter decorating in a few other rooms. Nothing major just a little here and there.

I literally put the throw on the chair, and before I could add a pillow, one of our cats was making herself at home.

In the den, I added a wood bunny, a small nest and Spring branches.

I added a wreath, a couple of bunnies and some plastic eggs in the family room. We have a ton of plastic eggs from our epic egg hunt. Usually I put them in bowls and baskets around the house but this year I just added a few to the centerpiece. Bowls of plastic eggs at Easter are like bowls of ball ornaments at Christmas. A quick way to add a festive touch to any room.

The eggs in the large moss nest are the ones I dyed last year using tea bags.

You can see more Easter decorating here, here and here. Have you done any Easter decorating this year? I’d love to hear about it.
