First Birthday Garden Party

A few weeks ago, my sweet twin nieces turned one. My sister planned a garden party for the girls’ first birthday. I can’t think of a better theme to celebrate their milestone year. It has truly been a blessing to watch my nieces grow and see their personalities bloom.

I was so excited when she let me do the centerpieces and decorate for the party. Oh, and did I mention that she let me do my own thing (fun but nerve wracking). Her only requests were flowers in shades of pink, girly, and large paper flowers. Remember the episode of Friends when Phoebe was put in charge of ice and cups for a surprise party? That was me but instead of ice it was flowers, flowers and more flowers.

Disclaimer: Almost all of these pictures were taken with my I-phone while I was in the middle of decorating. I brought my good camera with grand plans of taking pictures when everything was perfect but real life gets in the way. It was a race against the weather, then the babies got up from their naps and were so cute, I forgot about taking perfectly staged pictures. So, imagine the boxes put away, the tablecloths wrinkle free and the chalkboards labeled.

 The Invitation

Welcome to the Garden Party

Bouquets of flowers in mason jars lined the path to the party.

To welcome guests to the garden party, I added a display of flowers by the front door. The chalkboard sign was moved indoors because of the rain.

The Centerpieces

The flowers were from Trader Joe’s. I literally filled my cart with flowers in every shade of pink I could find and some others that I couldn’t resist. I used mason jar for the centerpieces and made sure each centerpiece had the same color scheme. The flowers lasted a good two weeks after the party. So far grocery flowers have yet to disappoint.

The Large Paper Flowers

I made the large paper flower backdrop for the appetizer/ dessert table. The backdrop had to fit in my car and be easy to assemble. Big Daddy and I stuck wood poles in flower pots, filled them with cement and attached curtain rods. Then I pinned the flowers to sheer curtains and filled in any holes with leaves.

Rain is good for real flowers but paper flowers notsomuch. They wilted a little but it was okay.

The Smash Cakes

Each baby had their own cake to dive into- or should I say smash. One niece went to town and the other was a dainty little lady. It was too cute.
